Thanksgiving

Amid the brutal Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving holiday as a day of gratitude and prayer. Though regions, friends, and family were torn apart by differing visions of what our country could be, he set aside time for a nation to foster reflection and care, urging those at war to remember their blessings during the harvest season. He called to give thanks for what we have and seek healing for the wounds caused by conflict. His hope, I believe, was to create an annual occasion of shared humanity in a reconciled peaceful United States, and for all those who seek its promise.

You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one…
