Cry, the Beloved Country
Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own. ~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Inauguration Day. 20 Jan 1961.
My heart breaks with rage knowing that many who would read these words today support, pray for, and pay well untrained men to adorn uniforms with masks to terrorize private homes and public spaces. The standards are not high. Intimidation, kidnapping, imprisonment, killing seen as victorious actions and necessary actions in what they believe and are told is God's cleansing work.
History will be the final judge of our deeds. Obedience will not save us.
